Venetia Valley Pop-Up

Venetia Valley K-8 PTA and Congregation Rodef Sholom partnered to assist COVID-19 impacted families by providing over 1500 meals, and essential supplies, weekly to the Santa Venetia neighborhood.

From April-July 2020, they distributed:

  • 39,000 meals

  • 3,000 grocery & household supply bags

  • 500 school supplies & book bags

  • 50 baby supply bags

  • 2,500 produce boxes

  • 1,900 gallons of milk

  • 760 boxes of cereal

  • 800 masks

  • over $16,000 is restaurant certificates

  • over $40,000 in Safeway and Target gift cards

  • 200 deliveries to families with no transportation

When close to 80% of Venetia Valley School parents lost their jobs due to COVID-19, Brenda Camarena, Family Center Director at Venetia Valley School, and Moji Javi, Director of Synagogue Engagement at Rodef Sholom Congregation, partnered to mobilize staff and volunteers to help their community. With support from ExtraFood, SeedReleaf, Dine11Marin, Conscious Kitchen, Mission Food Hub, Multicultural Center of Marin, Sonoma Marin Produce, Office Depot and Marin Ace Hardware, they have successfully operated a food supply distribution site that saw over 200 cars each week since April. In addition, they collected private donations to fund grocery store gift cards for these same families.

This drive-through continued to operate every Friday at Venetia Valley School through September 2020, providing meals and other essential supplies to the families whose livelihoods have been impacted by COVID-19.
